Born in Burlington, Iowa on March 14, 1949, she was the second child and only daughter of Dorothy Elizabeth (Dowell) and Kenneth Henry Stanbary. Barb grew up in Burlington with four brothers: Doug, Virgil, David, and Randy. Following high school, she attended junior college for a short while.
On August 16, 1969, Barb married her high school sweetheart, John Charles Nichols. They wed in Burlington, where they remained until John finished his term of service. In the fall of 1972, they relocated to Loveland. Together they enjoyed travelling the country and the world, having visited all 50 states and five continents. They traveled in their motorhome, and took shorter trips together on the motorcycle, and enjoyed time on the water. Throughout the years, they enjoyed each other's company and lots of laughs. Theirs was a beautiful life and a wonderful marriage.
Barb was an avid reader and enjoyed various puzzles including jigsaw, crossword, and sudoku. She and John had 11 dogs through the years which Barb loved dearly, especially Buddy. Barb was kind, had a generous heart, and was always willing to help others. She will be dearly missed.
Along with her husband John Nichols, and her four brothers, Barb is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
A Graveside Service will be held for Barb on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 10am at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
