Bernice L. Puls of Loveland died on Thursday, October 20, completing her earthly walk with her Lord at age 88. A daughter of Emil and Abbie (Steinbrink) Dreher, she was born on February 4, 1923, in Elwood, NE. She has been a resident of Loveland since 1959.
Bernice graduated from Elwood High School, earned her teaching certificate from Kearney State Teachers College, and taught for several years in a one-room school near Elwood. She married William Remmenga, in Elwood, on April 15, 1942, and to this union Sharon was born. William died in the Normandy invasion, on July 27, 1944. On June 6, 1948, Bernice married Orey E. Puls, also in Elwood. Their children are Debra and Eddie.
Bernice was an active member of Resurrection Fellowship, where she was a true warrior in intercessory prayer. She also thoroughly enjoyed serving as a greeter, and hiking and traveling with seniors from the church, to Israel, Costa Rica and other destinations. “Always 39,” if there was music, that meant dance—and that she did! Bernice was also a master at word-search games, absolutely loved the color red, and relished the bugling elk in the Estes Park area.
Bernice is survived by her son, Eddie Puls of Fort Collins; and daughters Sharon (Earl) Smith of Loveland, and Debra (Dennis) Hartley of Milliken. Also surviving is her brother Dale (Alice Jean) Dreher of Elwood and sisters-in-law, Bernice Ransdell of Wheat Ridge, CO, Luella Monter of Kansas and Lee Puls of North Platte, NE. Her sister, Ellen Packwood, preceded her in death. Bernice’s beloved grandchildren are Dawnna Puls, Rory Puls, Jennifer Land, Karen Smith, Jason Land, and Joshua Puls; and her great-grandchildren are Dylon, Austin, Colton, Katie and Garrett. “See ya’ later, alligator!”
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 8426 S. Highway 287, Fort Collins. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Hartley home following the interment.
