Betty was born in Loveland May 9, 1930 to Henry and Frieda (Scheierman) Adler. She attended Loveland Elementary for the first two years and then moved to Timnath where she finished her schooling. She graduated from Timnath High School in 1948. Following her graduation, she attended a year of Business School in Denver. On March 27, 1949, Betty married Charles (Chuck) A. Willis, the love of her life.
From 1949 to 1973, Betty partnered with Chuck as they farmed and ran the Willis Dairy. During Chuck's time as Chief of the Poudre Valley Fire Protection District and as the Executive Chief of Poudre Valley Fire Authority, Betty both hosted and participated in the various social events, meetings, and conferences related to Chuck's work. She and Chuck were members of the Northern Colorado Bottle Club for many years and they valued the friendships made through this as they participated at the local, state, and regional levels. She was actively involved in many of the aspects of the life of Timnath Presbyterian Church among which were Second Mile Mission and Afternoon Circle. She also worked to help make the church bazaars successful. Outside of the church, Betty was a part of Church Women United where, for several years, she was responsible for the monthly newsletter. She enjoyed being a part of the Timnath Community Players and often shared memories from those times. Her love of family was strong; the many stories of playing softball in the yard, water skiing on Long's Pond, family vacations, and time at the "Will-is Inn" exemplified that love. Betty loved her garden and yard, was a skilled seamstress and a talented knitter as well as an avid crafter. Her cooking skills were shown in her homemade angel food cakes, homemade noodles and Krautburgers, her fried apples, and her famous chocolate "throw up" cake.
With her diagnosis of Dementia in 2012, her ability to do many of the things she loved was diminished, however, her love of family and friends, her sense of humor, and her love and appreciation for God's creation remained constant to the end.
Betty is survived by her daughter Nancy (Herb) Greenwood, her son Terry (Janelle) Willis, five grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, her brother Alvin Adler, and her sister Luella Forveilly. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her son Randy, and two sisters, Laurene and Freida Mae.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17 at Timnath Presbyterian Church. Following the service, there will be a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
The family would like to express their thanks for the kind and compassionate care provided by the caregivers of Hillcrest of Loveland, the staff of Pathways Hospice, and Carrie Keegan, long time caregiver and friend.
Memorials may be made to Timnath Presbyterian Church or to the charity of your choice.
