It is with a heavy heart that the Polizzotto/Hutcheson family announce that on Thursday, September 12th, 2024 Bowie William Joseph Hutcheson, at 23 years old, passed out of this world in Fort Collins, Colorado. He waged a heroic battle against cancer which took his life in ten months.
Bowie was born in San Jose, California to an American mother, Pamela Polizzotto and a British father, Colin Hutcheson. He also leaves behind a large extended family, stateside and abroad: siblings Nico Hutcheson (15), Sam Clarke (30), and Isla Hutcheson (10), maternal grandmother (Louise Polizzotto), paternal grandparents (John & Nancy Cubin), aunts (Jenny Polizzotto, Lisa Burns, Caroline Anderson), uncles (Joe Polizzotto, Andy Cubin, Phil Cubin) eleven cousins (Kyle, Amanda, Paul, Sophia, Ella, Jack, Gigi, Grace, Krystie, John, Ella C.), and his beloved girlfriend, Alex Del Aguila.
Bowie's short life was blessed with travel to UK, France, Spain, Ethiopia and Guatemala. He deeply appreciated these experiences and developed a broader perspective and understanding by them. He attended Valley Christian High School and went to college at the University of Oregon in Eugene. During his Junior and Senior year, he was part of the Chi Psi Fraternity. In June 2023, Bowie received a Bachelor of Arts in Geospatial Data Science and Technology. After graduation, Bowie accepted a job as a recruiter for Insight Global, working in their San Franciso location. Bowie initially resided with his grandmother Louise in San Jose, commuting daily by train to San Francisco. Work-life suited him wonderfully and he had been recognized by his management for his work ethic and results. Additionally, his social life was flourishing- new friends, new activities, and a new relationship with the love of his life, Alex. It must also be noted that Bowie was an avid Arsenal (Premier League soccer) supporter, watching matches at a local Arsenal-fan pub.
Bowie's burgeoning life was derailed with his cancer diagnosis in November 2023. He moved to Colorado for treatment and to be cared for by his mother, Pam. And yet it is through this harrowing cancer battle that Bowie's essential nature was shown to many. He fought his grim diagnosis with such determination, hope, kindness, humility, grattitue and grace - impressing countless lives. It was a gift to behold. Bowie suffered much but never complained. Rather he chose to focus on what he could control and that was his hope of healing. Wise beyond his years, Bowie earned admiration from everyone he came into contact with, young and old alike. Nurses and doctors alike were endeared to him as was his church (Council Tree Covenant in Fort Collins) and his mother's many friends. To many, he is the strongest person they have ever met.
Bowie left a profound mark upon this world in his 23yrs. Bowie was useful, honorable, compassionate, and it made a difference that he lived and lived well.
