At an early age Brenda was immersed in the Christian community, which would be her lifelong dedication and mission for her entire life. After graduating from VA Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Arts in special education, Brenda dedicated seven years to the Richmond Public School System. However, when she felt the call to full-time ministry, she didn't hesitate. She enlisted in the Navy Reserves as a hospital corpsman to fund her seminary education, a decision that would shape the rest of her life. Upon earning her Master's of Divinity degree, she was chosen to serve as a Navy chaplain with the rank of Lieutenant Junior grade, a role she embraced with her characteristic passion and dedication.
On November 12th, 1993, Brenda married her beloved Carlos Davila in Richmond, Virginia, at her parents' home. Their marriage was a testament to their love and commitment to each other, and they both served in the Navy, a shared passion that brought them even closer. They were stationed off and on in Okinawa, Japan, for eight years.
As a Navy chaplain, Brenda's service was marked by numerous tours offshore, afloat, and overseas. She undertook deployments in various roles. Her dedication and bravery in these roles were a source of pride for all who knew her, and her commitment to duty was unwavering.
Brenda's intellectual prowess was evident in her educational achievements. She earned her Doctor of Ministry Degree from the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in 2005, thus furthering her sphere of influence in counseling distressed couples. In June 2010, she earned a Master's Degree in Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
During her 26 years as a Navy chaplain, Brenda's love for working with individuals and married couples was evident in all she did. She spent countless hours counseling, encouraging, supporting, team building, conducting pre-marriage counseling before performing weddings, and mentoring men, women, and children affiliated with all the branches of the military service. Her compassion and dedication touched the lives of many.
Shortly after retiring from the Navy in November 2016, Brenda was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. In March of 2017, she believed God said it was time for her multiple myeloma to be treated through God's healing remedies, so she came to Eden Valley Institute of Wellness. This healthy lifestyle and her never-ending stamina and energy contributed immensely to her well-being and determination to be well, such that she lived five years past her medical life expectancy.
Brenda passed to her rest on August 28, 2024, and is survived by her husband Carlos Davila; Carlos' daughter Monica Davila and her son, Isaiah Davila; father Willie James Bradley; mother Ola (Moses) Bradley, sister Debra Bradley (Gregory - Gone to Glory) Sanders; brothers James Larry (Maxine) Bradley and Willie Earl (Brenda) Bradley. Brenda's nieces and nephews are Nikisha McKinney (Sanders), Michael D. Sanders, Lauren Bradley, Myles (Arie) Bradley, and Wayne E. (Patriyiah) Bradley. On the Davila side of the family she is survived by grandchildren Diana Davila, Sasha Davila, Isaiah Davila, and Rain Davila. Aunts and uncles on her mother's side of the family are Leon Moses, Alex Moses, Mercy Dee Moses, and Shirley Jordan (Moses). She has a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Brenda was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Phillip Bradley.
