Lee was born in Oklahoma to the late Clifford and Lillie Hoover. He was an “Okie” marching band, trombone playing “cowboy” who married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Katie. They were married for 60 years and loved every minute of it. Though bowlegged from riding his horse, he fathered two children with her and eventually took them all off to see the world. Lee’s career included working on the Moon Rover Program at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. He worked at the Goddard Space Flight Center for NASA and the US Census Bureau in Maryland. The Saudi government requested him by name to teach computer programming in Riyadh. He eventually ended his career with the USDA in Fort Collins working on programming which was used to control disease in food animals.
He was a man of God, loved his family and was pleased to support a child in Peru. He adored animals and doted over his pets. Lee was a supporter of all animal organizations and charities. He was an exemplary “cowboy” who was very generous and kind-hearted.
Lee enjoyed repairing old radios, enjoyed posting with his many Facebook friends, and was a proud member of the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sister, Charla “Lynn” Hoover.
Lee is survived by: wife, Kathleen “Katie” Hoover; son, Mark Hoover; daughter, Diana Hoover; grandchildren, Jennifer Hoover (Kyle Purdy) and Melissa Lemke (Vince); great grandchildren, Madi Lemke, Emma Lemke and Ryder Purdy; nephew, Erik Kessinger (Stacee) and great nephews Michael and Andrew Kessinger.
