Carol Rhea Cowles
August 22, 1948 – September 3, 2021
Carol Rhea Cowles passed away in her sleep on Friday, September 3, 2021 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
She had just celebrated her 73rd birthday on August 22nd, surrounded by her husband, children, and her two granddaughters.
Carol was born on August 22, 1948 in Britton/Edmond, Oklahoma to her beloved parents, Edna and Irving (Buck) Ketch. She spent a joyful childhood in Edmond with her two siblings, Tom and Sherry, on a small farm at the outskirts of town. Carol earned her Associate Degree and worked for over 40 years in Bookeeping/Accounting.
In 1968 Carol married Byron R Cowles (Barney) and shortly after they moved to Arkansas where they raised their two children, Julie and Byron. Carol and Barney enjoyed life in Arkansas for 47 years surrounded by many close friends before moving to Fort Collins, Colorado to be near their children and grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her husband, Barney Cowles; her daughter, Julie Hoffmann, and her son, Byron Cowles; her two granddaughters, Jordan Stansloski and Isabelle (Izzy) Cowles; her brother, Tom Ketch; her many sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, and her beloved dog, Sadie. She is preceded in death by her father, Buck Ketch, and her mother, Edna Ketch, as well as her sister, Sherry Ozbirn.
Carol was a faithful Christian who treasured her family and friends above everything else in this world. She was full of life and love for those around her. We are so thankful she has moved on to her forever home with God, but we will greatly miss her being here with us.
We will see you again soon when we all get home!
A Memorial Service will be held in Carol's honor on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 3:00pm at Allnutt Drake Chapel in Fort Collins, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.

My deepest condolences on the loss of this amazing lady. Growing up, she was like a mom to me and I loved her deeply. I can close my eyes and so clearly see and hear her laughing with us. How many batches of Christmas cookies did we bake with her? Beautiful memories, I will carry them always ….My heart breaks for Barney, Julie and Byron….you will always have my love.

I will miss Carol but I know she and Sherry are having a laugh-filled reunion. Knew Carol through school, church and MYF. Our parents were good friends. My sister and I had "play dates" at the farm through our teens. Her mom was a great hostess and made wonderful deserts. I am happy that Carol is now free of her earthly ails.

Carol will be missed for so many reasons. The small class of us who attended Ida Freeman always had a special bond, and Carol was a big part. She was generous and kind and inclusive, always finding the best in classmates. That did not change in high school; she continued to be open and hospitable to all.
I am sorry for the family's loss, but there is joy in heaven at Carol's arrival. Be at peace.

I’m so sorry for your loss…. It was an Honor to be able to play a small part in her Journey. She was a Beautiful Lady with a Beautiful Soul and I have so many great memories of her while caring for her! She was funny and a strong person, to keep up with her you would definitely get your exercise in! Oh how she loved her popcorn and M&M’s and any dessert there was! Her family was very devoted to her, Barney would come in daily to assist her for lunch, what a Beautiful Love they shared❤️ Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers…. Love Shari
