Carol was born in Loveland, Colorado to J. Glenn and Elsie (Moon) Mattison on January 2, 1934. She credited her parents,grandparents, and church for invaluable teachings that influenced her life in a positive way. Her faith was ever present in her life - expressed in her joyfulness and love of people, nature, and music. Carol had lifelong friends from her days in kindergarten and primary grades in Loveland. She continued to accumulate friends over her entire life. Carol attributed her enriched life to her many friends.
Carol graduated from Loveland High School in 1952, CSU with a Bachelor in Music Education in 1956 and attended the University of Northern Colorado, University of New Mexico, and University of Colorado to acquire Elementary Teaching Certification. Carol taught elementary music and 5th grade in Longmont before moving to Fort Collins in 1964 where she taught 5th grade at O'Dea Elementary until retirement in 1989. Carol must have made a positive impression on her students as many remained in contact with Carol throughout her life.
Carol was a member of First United Methodist Church, Church choir, Chapter FM of PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma, Colorado State University Women's Association, Fort Collins Women's Chorus, the Sunshine Singers, and served on the Board of Directors of the Leisure Living Manor Condo Association. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading, walking, needlework, playing the piano, sharing meals with friends, and singing.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Echols. Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Music Ministry.
