Charlene Ann Walker

The oldest of two children, Charlene was born January 12, 1938 at Big Springs, Nebraska to Charles and Geraldine (Costello) Fenwick and was raised on the Belmar ranch west of Ogallala, Nebraska.

Charlene graduated from St Patrick’s Boarding School in Sidney, Nebraska and attended College of St Mary’s in Omaha, Nebraska. After leaving St. Mary’s, she worked for the U.S. Navy headquarters in Washington DC.

Charlene met her husband of 61 years and the love of her life, Carl, while he was home on leave during the Korean conflict. She often told the story of how they met, “This handsome darkhaired boy jumped into the backseat of their car while she and her friends were riding up and down Main Street on a Saturday night”. They fell in love and later married on November 30, 1957 in St Luke’s Catholic Church. Charlene and Carl spent the early years of their marriage living in Ogallala raising their six children with fond memories of country dances and spending time at the lake with family and friends. Along with their six children, they were blessed with twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

After the children were raised, they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where Charlene helped operate their family run business.

Apart from helping with the business, Charlene (also known as Mimi) enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, cooking fabulous meals and perfecting her tomato and cucumber plants in her garden. She loved dancing and touring the countryside on their Harley with her sweetheart, Carl, who passed away in 2019.

Charlene will be lovingly remembered by her children, sons; Terry Walker, of Phoenix, Arizona, Shawn Walker, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Shannon Walker, Pueblo, Colorado; daughters, Tracey (Kenneth) Hall of Las Vegas, Nevada; Michele (Robert) Farmer of Fort Collins, Colorado; a son-in-law, Pat (Mona) Lierley, of Grant, Nebraska; grandchildren Shelby (Mitch) Cotner, of Greeley, Colorado, Ashely (Benjamin) Diamond, of Darien Connecticut, Tyler (Sammy) Walker of Thedford, Nebraska, Ramsey (Jason) Jeffcote, of Estes Park, Colorado, Wesley (Matthew) Lafferty, of San Diego, California, Whitney McCreath, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Jarrod Hall, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Murphy (Kelli) Lierley, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Trevor (Courtney) Walker, Trent Walker and Trey Walker, all of Loveland, Colorado and Fenwick Walker, of Phoenix, Arizona; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Kooper, Kanaan and Kai Cotner, Cooper, and Cody Walker, Bret and Sloane Diamond, Penelope Jeffcote, Joshua Lierley, and soon-to-be baby Lafferty and baby Lierley.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents, Charles and Geraldine Fenwick; brother Edward Fenwick; and her beloved daughter Mona Rae Lierley.

Charlene will be profoundly missed by many.

The family will be celebrating both Carl and Charlene with a rosary starting at 10:00am, and a Funeral Mass at 10:30am on Friday, June 18 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church 417 E 3rd Street, Ogallala, followed by a burial at Ogallala Cemetery.
