He passed away of natural causes, at the age of 78, at Riverbend Health and Rehabilitation Center in Loveland, Colorado November 2, 2025.
When six weeks old, Dale and his mother flew to Madison, Wisconsin to join his father who had begun working on his master’s degree. After his father graduated, the family moved to Berkley California and then El Cerrito, California. Dale and his family lived in Sweden during his ninth grade year. After his father completed his PhD, the family settled in Fort Collins, Colorado in 1967.
After a happy childhood, Dale began showing signs of mental health challenges during puberty, which made life challenging. Too ill to attend school in his teen years, he obtained his GED, and later attended courses at Northeastern Junior College.
Dale enjoyed one summer in Estes Park, working as a dishwasher, and he delivered newspapers for many years. He found his calling when his mother purchased a ranch for him in 1992 on the north side of Fort Collins, and he became a rancher. Dale loved trees, and he planted hundreds on his property. He boarded horses and also nurtured a large garden.
His other passions in life included travel, food (especially spicy Mexican food), riding his motorcycle, meteorology, astronomy, documentaries, and caring for his dogs and horses.
Dale is survived by his sister, Karen (Jon) Sorensen of Roseville, California, brother, Kenneth Squire, of Roseville, California, his nephew, Jared, and three nieces, Mindy, Melanie, and Bonnie.
Funeral services and interment will be Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 10:00 am at Grandview Cemetery.
