David Frederick Piske, aged 94, passed away on August 8, 2024, in Fort Collins, Colorado. Born in Wausau, Wisconsin, on October 29, 1929, he leaves behind a legacy marked by his profound dedication to his family, his career, and his passion for the outdoors.
David graduated from West Point in 1952, and his service with the Army took him to the Korean War in 1953 as well as to Fort Huachuca with the Signal Corps. He retired from the Army in 1955. His commitment to his country was paralleled by his career achievements, notably as Vice President of General Telephone & Electronics Satellite Division, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and vision.
An ardent conservationist and outdoorsman, David was involved with many environmental organizations during retirement. He was Conservation Chair for Rocky Mountain Flycasters Chapter of Trout Unlimited, served on the Board of Directors for Big Thompson Watershed Coalition, and was active in The Nature Conservancy, Wildlands Restoration Volunteers, and Friends of Laramie Foothills. His love for fly fishing often found him at the water's edge, casting lines and nurturing his profound connection with nature. He was also active in several native trout restoration efforts, volunteering with the US Fish and Wildlife Service in Rocky Mountain National Park and the Poudre Headwaters Project.
David's intelligence, warm heart, and subtle humor enriched the lives of those around him. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patricia P. Piske; his children, David Piske, Jr. (Deana LaPoint), Beth Baily, Jill Manfredi (Christopher Incontro), and Peter Piske (Patricia Ewing); along with five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Anne Marie Piske (2004), his sister Suzanne Enwright (2021), and his parents Frederick and Anna (Beine) Piske.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 8, 2024. For details, please contact Elanah Gubernick at Allnutt Funeral Service in Fort Collins, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's memory may be made to the Rocky Mountain Flycasters Chapter of Trout Unlimited, supporting a cause close to his heart. https://rmftu.org/blog/the-loss-of-a-dear-friend
