Donald Eugene Jensen

August 25, 1939 - July 27, 2023

Donald E. Jensen of Fort Collins, Colorado was called home to the presence of the Lord on Thursday, July 27 2023 following a lengthy illness.

Donald “Don” Jensen was the only child of Elvin and Cleo Jensen born in Milaca, Minnesota on August 25, 1939. They preceded him in death. His beloved guide dog, Andrew also preceded him.

Don was an accomplished scientist, and procured his PhD in Microbiology from Purdue University in the early 1960’s. He worked for Proctor and Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio in the R&D department where he assisted in the formulation of several of the company’s detergent products. He moved his family to Fort Collins, CO in 1972 to take a position at Colorado State University as Professor in the Microbiology Department.

He later became an Amway distributor, and a successful Real Estate agent. He joined Home Sweet Home Realty and spent many years developing that business with a partner. After the tragic loss of his eyesight, he worked on a few projects. The largest one and passion of his heart, a high-tech non-profit facility; Rocky Mountain Guide Dog Academy. He wanted very much to help others with sight impairments. His beloved guide dog, Andrew also preceded him in passing who the Academy was dedicated to. Sadly, this project never materialized as failing health stymied its progress.

Don was moved to a palliative care facility in Windsor, Colorado late 2022 where he lived briefly but comfortably his final days.

Don loved horseback riding, listening to talk radio shows, and enjoying NFL football broadcasts. He cared for his aging parents up until the time of their passing in 2013 (Father) and 2014 (Mother).

He is survived by his four children, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. His family will hold a private memorial in the days to come. There is also being planned a Celebration of Life for Don for his friends, family and extended church family in early November as Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday.
