Don and I met in first grade, 1938, Anita Public School, Anita, Iowa. We became close friends and remained so in every grade up to graduating from high school in 1950. Though fate took us in different directions, we later rekindled our friendship at alumni gatherings in Anita and at lunches in Bettendorf when he and Suzanne traveled through Iowa on their way to Illinois. 
     There is something about a grade school to high school friendship that endures forever. And so it was with Don. He was such a kind, sweet, thoughtful person. Indeed, he was one to carry in one’s heart. I shall very much miss him.

We were all so blessed to have such a great man in our lives.   He was such an amazing son, husband, father and grandfather.  For me, he was the best father in law ever!  
We didn't get to see each other often, but always felt close.  Recently, we made a trip to Colorado where we were able to spend some wonderful time with Grandpa Don and Grandma Sue.  We shared many great memories and created many new ones. 
We love you Grandpa Don and we'll miss you!

Suzie,  Don, Rich and I loved to travel.  This was up in Rocky Mountain  National Park.   We have so many memories together.   We will cherish them forever.       I am sure mom and dad and Donny are up in heaven sharing all our great times.   Rest in peace together.   We will miss you.  Love ya Donny!     Rich and Sally. Daddy you gave me an amazing life.  You took Mom and I in and made us a family!  You taught me integrity, responsibility, independence and showed me what to look for in a future husband.  You walked me down the aisle to the love of my life (even though you met him first at Sears).  You became one of our girls' favorite person.  You teased them, loved them, gave them a fun home to play at when staying the night.  
Words cannot express how much I admired you.  You gave me a Sister and Brothers, something I always wanted.  
Thank you Daddy.  The memories that our family will share will keep you alive in our hearts for a lifetime.  
I am so excited that one day, you and I will get to play with Katie Dog again.  For now, give her many pets.

Uncle Don was always good to me from the time I was little and visited my Grandparents, until I was old and visited him when I went to Colorado.  He was my connection to my mother and grandparents.   Don and Sue were always gracious hosts when we did get to Ft. Collins.  I wish I could have seen him more often, but am blessed to have had him for an uncle.
