Duane Alexander Daire was born April 6,1939 in Fort Collins, CO, the fifth of six children to Mike and Katie Daire. He met Sylvia (Holm) at Luther House of Colorado State College, marrying her in June of 1965. Together they built a steadfast commitment to the vows exchanged with the love of their lives. He was a wonderful father to sons Jay, his wife Laura, and Phillip. He also cherished being a grandfather to granddaughter Courtney and her wife Lillie.
Duane proudly graduated from Timnath High School and Colorado State College (now UNC) with a Bachelor's degree. After teaching for five years he worked in the stockroom at Woodward Governor for the next 30 years, only taking a total of five days off and commuting through all weather conditions by bicycle for 20 of those years! After retiring Duane became a crossing guard with Poudre School District, by far his most treasured career! Up to his last days he would ask, “Am I a retired crossing guard?” and was proudly wearing his blue Dunn Dolphins shirt as he laid his head for an eternal slumber on September 9. He delighted in assisting Dunn Elementary children and adults cross Mulberry Street for 20 years, only setting his stop sign aside upon the onset of the pandemic in 2020.
Duane loved the Lord and undoubtedly has gone to be with Him. He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Fort Collins, CO for 57 years, often volunteering to assist with the reading of scriptures. Duane’s devotion to God, family and life in general made him well known for his sweet nature.
