Preceded in death by her husband Henry J. Petrie, she is survived by her children Thomas, Margaret, Henry, and Elizabeth; grandchildren Jillian, Cassidy, Kevin, Christine, and Shannon; and great-grandchildren Carter and Joy.
Elma was a homemaker, raising four children and, in later life, worked at the Reader’s Digest in Chappaqua, NY. A lover of Renaissance art, she volunteered as a Reader’s Digest docent giving tours of the art collection of Reader’s Digest founders DeWitt and Lila Bell Wallace on display at the magazine’s Chappaqua headquarters.
Elma was parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Bedford, NY for 45 years, before moving to Fort Collins, CO in 2022 for health reasons. On 1 April 2025 a 10:00 AM Funeral Mass will be held for her at St. Patrick’s Church, 7 Pound Ridge Rd, Bedford, NY 10506. Burial of her ashes will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains, NY.
