Eric William Haney, 48, passed away on April 27, 2019. He was born in Denver, Colorado July 24, 1970, to Thomas and Christine Haney. He grew up in Aurora, Colorado and graduated from Overland High School in 1988. Eric attended Colorado State University after high school.

Eric worked for his family’s trucking company, Colorado Denver Delivery, based out of Denver, during high school and after college. He met Melissa Sawyer in 1999 while she was working in dispatch with him at Colorado Denver Delivery. They married on June 8, 2001 in Loveland. In 2001 Eric started his own company, CDL College in Commerce City out of a small shed. He grew his company into a large, respected business that trained people from all over the world to work successfully in the transportation industry. Eric believed in hard work and family. Eric and Melissa moved to Loveland in 2001 and started their family. Eric and Melissa have 3 children, Ethan, 17, Grace, 16, and Sophia, 11. Eric loved music, especially Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan. He participated in BMX racing as a child and he was on the very first Spartan’s Lacrosse team at the age of 9, continuing to play Lacrosse throughout his life. Eric loved to be in the backyard, playing with his Lacrosse stick and his kids. He attended and supported his children’s many extracurricular activities and schooling. Eric was more like a Son to me than a Son-in-Law. I will be forever grateful to him for the love he had for my daughter Melissa and for the three beautiful children they created together. When Ethan was tiny and crying with colic they would call me and let me talk to Ethan to calm him. Eric called me the “baby-whisperer”. I watched him look at his family with so much love that his face would light up. I will always love you and cherish the memories. Rest In Peace.

I will never forget getting to play tour guide during a May 2015 visit Eric and Melissa made to my hometown, New Orleans. We took lots of pictures and had a lot of laughs and made some fun memories. Eric said I was a good driver which is high praise coming from someone in his field. :D He always had a good sense of humor and was a great father and great friend. I am so glad we all got to spend that time together, even though we live miles apart. I've known Melissa since the mid 90s and we finally got to do some of the fun things New Orleans had to offer that we had talked about all these years. Best of all, we got to share those with Eric. I will never forget it and will keep those fond memories close to heart. He will be deeply missed and I will continue to pray for peace for Melissa and the kids everyday.

I am so sorry for this loss, for all of us. I had the pleasure of knowing Eric as a neighbor and friend. He was always kind, funny, generous and giving. I will always remember the backyard movie night for the neighborhood kids and the way he always welcomed everyone into his home and heart. As I knew him, Eric was self-effacing and always able to laugh at himself. He cared deeply for his family and was always thinking of his business and how to grow and make it better. You set the bar high for all of us, and we miss you dearly. Thank you for all the many ways you gave back to those around you.

I worked for Eric from 2008 to 2010 as an instructor at the Aurora office. Eric was the kind of boss anyone would want, he helped me during many life events. While employed I had to have two surgeries, Eric didn’t have to but paid me while I was recovering. He also paid for my health insurance even tho the company didn’t have insurance knowing I had MS and no insurance of my own.

What a giving person he was and that’s how I will remember him. I owe a tremendous debt to him. He she’ll be missed.

To the family, my condolences for your loss, May God be with you during this difficult time.

For as long as I can remember, uncle Eric has been in my life. He was always such a goofy and happy guy! When I was young I used to make him eat butter... I guess I was a very annoying kid!! Poor guy! It still doesn’t feel real that you’re gone, you were such an amazing father, husband, uncle, son etc! I hope you have an endless supply of Diet Coke in heaven!!! I love you!

Eric has been a member of our family for 18 plus years. From the beginning Eric was kind and loving. He was immediately UNCLE ERIC! He was the cool guy that would let the kids do anything they wanted to do. He was awesome in that way. Our Granddaughters loved seeing him. They recently said,” Uncle Eric is so fun! We all feel blessed to of had Eric for as long as we did. Eric, you will live on forever in our hearts and minds. We will love and miss you forever.
