Frances Louise Bruns, 90, of Loveland, CO passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Good Samaritan Village of Loveland. Louise was born in Lanyon, Iowa on July 21, 1926 to parents Raymond and Laura C. (Lantz) Fulkerson. She graduated in 1944 from Cincinnati High School in Cincinnati, Iowa and began working in a munitions plant in Des Moines, Iowa during World War II. Soon after, she married her first husband, Marcus DeWitt Colton in December, 1945 in Centerville, Iowa. She and Marcus owned a farm, growing crops and livestock. In addition to farming, she was homemaker to their two children, Dennis Colton and Barbara Colton McCarty. Marcus passed away in 1959; during this same year Louise moved to Loveland where she met Loren W. Bruns. She married Loren in September, 1962 in Loveland, CO.
During her years in Loveland she spent 9 months travelling daily to Denver for cosmetology school. After graduating, she opened up her own salon, Louise’s Beauty Studio. Later on, Louise worked for Hewlett Packard, retiring in 1982. After her retirement, she and Loren were snowbirds, living in Arizona during the winter months and visiting Loveland and Gunnison during the summers. They moved back to Loveland permanently in 1999.
Louise enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, cooking, gardening, bookclub and fishing (mainly because it was Loren’s passion.)
She is survived by her four children, Dennis (Kim) Colton of Loveland, Barbara C. (John) McCarty of Denver and step sons, Richard (Linda) Bruns of Oregon, and Robert (Chris) Bruns of Loveland; her siblings John (Linda) Fulkerson of Florida and Edith Patterson of Texas; grandchildren Marcus (Carolyn) McCarty of Denver, Lindsey McCarty (Ben) Dahl of Fargo, ND, Heather Colton (Brad) Haas of Colorado Springs, Amber Colton (Rob) Halligan of Colorado Springs, Loren (Caitlin) Bruns of Australia, and Mallorie Bruns of Loveland; and great-grandchildren Reid and Celia McCarty, Caleb and Brielle Dahl, Brady Haas, Colton Halligan, and Natalie Bruns.
Preceding her in death are first husband Marcus DeWitt Colton; second husband Loren W. Bruns; her parents; siblings Joan Rieck and Sandy Fulkerson; and a step-son Randall Bruns.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to either Trinity Lutheran Church of Loveland or Pathways Hospice, both in care of Resthaven Funeral Home and Memory Gardens.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3333 Duffield Ave, Loveland, CO 80538.
