Born on December 27, 1940, in Miller County, Missouri, to the late Agnes (Nilges) and Emil Bax, Georgia was one in a family of 17. Growing up on the family homestead in St. Mary, Missouri, she learned early on the value of hard work, family ties, and faith. She graduated from Catholic high school in Nevada, Missouri.
On August 29, 1985, while living in Jefferson City, Missouri, Georgia married the love of her life, James "Paul" McConkey. They were wed in Loveland, Colorado, where she relocated and together they built a wonderful life focused on faith and family.
Georgia was the heart of her family. As a devoted mother to her three children—William, Randall, and Connie Sue—she was the most loving person imaginable, always willing to make any sacrifice to ensure her children were cared for and happy. Her home was her heart. Her family was her life. When her children were young, she lovingly baked homemade treats and hand-sewed their clothes, pouring her warmth and care into every detail of their lives. In later years, the light of her life was her cherished granddaughter, Alice, who brought her endless joy.
Georgia’s career began in 1985 with US West. Through numerous company growth shifts and name changes, she remained a dedicated worker, ultimately retiring in 2015 from Quad Graphics. A woman of deep faith and a lifelong Catholic, Georgia was an active parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loveland. Georgia expressed her love through her hands and heart. She enjoyed quilting, tending to her home, and offering a helping hand to anyone in need.
Georgia was as genuine as they come—warm-hearted, selfless, and equipped with a wonderful sense of humor. She brought joy to every room and was known to cheekily remind loved ones that "there were only two perfect people: Jesus and Georgia." True to form, she kept her sharp humor and bright spirits right until the end. She will be dearly missed.
Her legacy of love, faith, and family carries on in those she leaves behind. Georgia is survived by her sons Bill McConkey and Randy McConkey; step-sons Warren McConkey (Julie) and Jason McConkey (Wendie): step-daughter, Juanita Lester (Mike): grandchildren Rick McConkey, Alice Powell, and Chris Powell (Jynelle); and 13 siblings; as well as numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She is greeted in Heaven by her dear husband, Paul McConkey; her daughter Connie Sue Powell; her sisters Sister Leona Bax and Lorraine Martin; brother Jimmy Bax; her daughter-in-law, Bill’s wife, Wanda McConkey; and her parents, Agnes & Emil Bax.
