
Herman Thomas Smith ""Tom"" of Norfolk, VA passed away Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Berthoud Living Center, Berthoud, CO following a long illness. He is now at peace with our Lord.Tom was born in Greenville, NC on October 26, 1947. He was a graduate of the Granby class of 1965. Tom was a gifted musician and an excellent athlete. He lettered in football, wrestling, and track and field. He was a ""formidable wrestler"" on the great Billy Martin teams of the 1960's. He was the Eastern District wrestling champion in 1964 and 1965. He was also considered for various scholarships while playing football.At a young age, Tom possessed a great memory for passages of the Bible. He was a member of the Bayview Baptist Church. Tom also had enormous respect for the ""great thinkers of all time"".Tom served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from the Postal Service. He was known by many people as a kind and caring person.Tom is survived by his mother, Virginia Pozek of Norfolk, VA., brothers, Jack Smith of Mill City, Oregon and Doug Smith of Loveland, CO. Tom had three children, Frederick of Lima, Peru; Charles Smith of Norfolk, VA; and Harold Neeley of West VA; grandchildren, Justin, Chelsea, Harold, Thomas, Corrine, Hannah and Miranda Smith. Tom is also survived by his children's mother, Evelyn Hall of Virginia. Herman Smith, Tom's father, preceded Tom in death in 1963.The viewing for Tom will be Thursday, August 6th, between 6 P.M. and 8 P.M. Graveside service will be held at 2 P.M. August 6th 2009. Both services will be conducted at Resthaven Funeral Home and Memory Gardens.
