Beloved as a son, brother, uncle, grandson, dear friend, and so much more, Hosea will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who loved with his whole heart.
Born in Lubbock, Texas on January 22, 1979, Hosea was the youngest of eight children welcomed to the world by his loving parents, Carmela and Joe Ballesteros. Growing up in a one-room home in Lubbock, the Ballesteros children didn't have much, but love was never in short supply. They grew up close and remained as such throughout their lives. Life was simple and life was good. Hosea graduated from Lubbock High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from Arizona State University. He was exceptionally bright and adept at technology, which led him straight into a career in specialized computer services. Hosea went from Lubbock to Las Vegas and, in 2001, followed his parents and family to Northern Colorado.
Fully embracing his inner nerd, Hosea loved reading comics, playing Final Fantasy, and watching anime, especially Dragon Ball Z. He loved music and was very musical, playing the guitar and the keyboard. He certainly appreciated a good riff. Just for fun, Hosea learned multiple languages including Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. He had hoped to one day travel to Asia. He was so very smart and just knew everything. His mind was like a library of random knowledge. If there was a question, he likely knew the answer. He loved his snacks and he loved his sweets. And he loved Halloween.
Hosea was an all-around good guy who always showed respect to others, especially to his parents. He was quiet, never demanding the spotlight, and deeply caring—there simply wasn't a mean streak in him. He was just a big teddy bear. He did, however, have an ornery side to him, and a great sense of sarcasm.
Hosea was a fighter. He didn't give up. He loved life and longed to experience more of it. Forty-seven years simply isn't enough, and Hosea deserved more time than he was given. As his illness progressed, he became acutely aware of what was ahead. He fought even harder, trying with everything he had to hold on. He remained bright and hopeful right up until the very end.
Hosea will be dearly missed by the family he leaves behind including his father, Joe Ballesteros; his sisters, JoAnn Ballesteros and Mary Childs; brothers John Ballesteros, Bobby Ballesteros (Shelly), Johanne Ballesteros (Deanna), and Hiram Ballesteros (Jessica Aldaz); and his best friend of more than 14 years, his heart, Joy Harp, who was everything to Hosea. He will also be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family, and dear friends.
He is greeted in Heaven by his mother, Carmela Ballesteros; his sister Jennifer Ballesteros (who died in infancy before Hosea was born); and his brother-in-law, Mitch Childs.
Visitation & Rosary will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026 and Tuesday, September 1, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Hosea's Funeral Service will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 10:00 am, immediately followed by his Graveside Committal at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
