Her husband and three daughters were by her side as she took her last breath and entered eternity where she is truly set free, no longer suffering and now experiencing unimaginable joy in the presence of her Saviour!
During her three-year battle with breast cancer, Jeannie demonstrated remarkable strength and perseverance. Though the journey was difficult, she fought with tenacity and endured much so that she could be present with her family that she loved, for as many days as God granted her.
Jeannie Renee Harris was born on October 5, 1958, in Bremerton, Washington, to Eldon and Dorothy Harris, who precede her in death. She grew up surrounded by family and shared special memories with her siblings: Randy, Diane, Scott, and Julie. Treasured times together were spent during their summers at the family cabin on Hood Canal.
On September 17, 1977, she married the love of her life, Jay Detweiler, and together they shared 48 years of devoted marriage built on faith, love, and family. They were blessed with three daughters and one son, Joel, who went to heaven at four months gestation. Jay and Jeannie were each other’s faithful companion and friend throughout the trials and joys they shared, and both testify to the Lord’s tremendous faithfulness to lead and carry them through whatever He allowed…even cancer.
Jeannie was a loving and devoted “Marmie”, “Moem”, and “Mommin” to her three daughters: Jennifer (Steven) Foltz, Jocelyn (John) Lawson, and Jillian (Chris) Williams. She was also deeply loved as “Nana” to her nine cherished grandchildren, and “Great Nana” to her first great-grandson. Her family was the joy of her life.
Jeannie faithfully devoted her life to her family as a homemaker, creating a home filled with warmth, kindness, and hospitality. She had a natural gift for making others feel welcome and loved, often serving family, friends, and those in need through meals, baked treats, and heartfelt encouragement.
She was especially known for her servant’s heart and sensitivity to the needs of others. Jeannie had a special compassion for those who were hurting emotionally, for those in need, and for those who felt overlooked or outcast. Her quiet kindness, listening ear, and gentle encouragement reflected the love of Christ in ways that deeply touched many lives.
Jeannie enjoyed sewing, cooking, and baking for family and friends, taking walks with her family, bike rides, playing badminton, spending time with her grandchildren and relaxing with a good movie and popcorn. She loved a delicious slice of homemade blackberry cobbler. Jeannie enjoyed worship music by Keith and Kristyn Getty, as well as traditional hymns, the instrumental music of The Secret Garden, and the beautiful voice of Andrea Bocelli.
Her passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who loved her. She leaves behind an incredible legacy of faith, compassion, and devotion to family which will continue to inspire those who knew her. So many friends and family members’ lives were touched by her kindness and faithful love.
“But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:26-28
