Born on November 2, 1938, in Ottawa, Illinois, to Clarence and Elizabeth (Libby) White, Jerrie grew up as the eldest in a lively household with his three sisters. He earned his master’s degree in industrial arts from Western Illinois University. After briefly teaching high school shop classes in LaSalle-Peru, Illinois, Jerrie moved to Fort Collins, Colorado with his former wife, Helen (VanDeMark), and their daughters, Mindy, Amy, and Gina.
Jerrie spent much of his professional career as a tool designer for Woodward Governor before successfully venturing out on his own to establish a machine shop. He was a craftsman at heart who took great pride in his work.
In 1988, Jerrie married Cyndie Schaffer at Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch in Loveland, Colorado. Together, they shared decades of wonderful adventures, often found exploring the Colorado mountains, camping, and taking long drives to soak in the views.
Known for his quick wit and gift for storytelling, Jerrie had an easygoing personality that allowed him to make friends with anyone he met. He was at his happiest when he was outdoors—whether he was casting a line while fishing, tinkering with cars, or working with his hands. His kindness and sense of humor were unmatched. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. Jerrie also had a real soft spot for animals and enjoyed the simple pleasure of their company.
Jerrie is survived by his wife, Cyndie; his daughters, Mindy White of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Amy (Paul) Murphy of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Gina (Michael) Nichols of Cape Coral, Florida; and his grandchildren, Zane Donnan, Sophie Nichols, and Katie Murphy. He is also survived by his sisters, Jo Carr and Denise (Tibor) Nagy, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Linda Kling, his brother Stephen White, his brothers-in-law Tom Kling and Bill Carr, and his nieces Wendy Carr and Eve Nagy.
A private inurnment was held on April 10th, 2026 at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins. Treasured memories of Jerrie and words of condolence for his family are welcome at resthavencolorado.com.
