He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Atkinson, sons David Atkinson, Michael Atkinson, Kenneth Atkinson, their wives, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two sisters, Judy Atkinson and Jackie Bakka.
Jerry started his career as a tool and die journeyman, however he decided helping others was his calling and earned his PhD in Vocational Education from Colorado State University. He served in numerous roles helping vocational and technical education programs including being a national accreditation auditor and a state supervisor.
Jerry loved spending time with his family, serving in church, enjoying outdoor activities (especially at their cabin), traveling, enjoying time with friends and various volunteer opportunities.
Jerry will be greatly missed but remembered by his love for others and his generous and caring spirit.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Front Range Baptist Church, 625 E. Harmony Rd. Fort Collins, CO 80525.
