Born on July 14th, 1951 in Greenville, Texas to Pauline Ritch and Arden Hamrick, Jimmy was later raised by his mother and step-father Dan Mason. His family moved to Denver when Jim was in high school and he graduated from Sheridan High School in Sheridan, Colorado. The family eventually moved back to Texas while Jimmy stayed, living with his sister in Sheridan.
Jimmy met the love of his life when he was just 16 years old. Bonnie Sue Grimm was just 14 when they met at church. Bonnie's mother felt that was too young to be dating and so their courtship officially began two years later. Two years after that, Bonnie and Jimmy were married, and they remained happily so for 52 wonderful years. Jimmy knew his one true love for 57 of his 73 earthly years. He truly never loved another. Jimmy and Bonnie were blessed with two amazing children, Andy and Karen. Jimmy was a devoted husband and father. He worked hard to care for his family, always putting their needs above his own.
A carpenter by trade, Jimmy went to work as a truck driver to support his wife and children when residential construction slowed. He retired from the Navy Reserves, having served as a builder in the construction battalion for 20 years. He worked for Northwest Transport and later retired from Roadway Express. Following his "retirement", Jim went to work for CDOT and again retired after five years. He was no stranger to hard work and his hands were seldom idle.
Jimmy earned his private pilot's license and took to the skies. He had a fondness for aviation and loved the freedom of being up in the air. He was at one time restoring his own experimental aircraft. He also kept busy restoring classic cars such as his Ford Maverick. Jimmy was most certainly Mr. Fix It and so much more. He built Bonnie their dream home with his own hands, often working long hours to sand or stain one more board. It was a labor of true love. Jimmy enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He liked to go camping and boating with his family. And he loved flying. He was a member of Navy Seabees - Construction Battalion and of Faith Church in Fort Collins.
Jim was a good and virtuous man. Though he was was quiet, he was also thoughtful. He was always willing to help others. He was very caring and gentle. Jimmy was dependable and always true to his word. Those he loved knew it. He had a way of making sure they always felt cared for. He will be dearly missed.
Jimmy leaves behind his wife Bonnie Hamrick of Loveland, Colorado; son Andy Hamrick of Windsor, Colorado, and daughter Karen Hamrick Boykin (Caleb) of Greeley, Colorado; granddaughters Brittany Hamrick Ashcroft (Garrett) of Centennial, Colorado, and Carly Boykin of Greeley; grandsons Bailey Hamrick of Orlando, Florida, Brandon Hamrick, and Carter Boykin, both of Greeley; a great-grandson, Liam Knee and a great-granddaughter, Andi Ashcroft, both of Centennial.
