After service in the Marine Corps, he put himself through college — the first of his ancestry to do so —, obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Physics from San Jose State University, CA and had completed several graduate level courses toward an MBA.
While living in the San Francisco Bay Area, he fashioned a thirty-year career in “Silicon Valley’s” high-tech industry. Jack served as an executive in four successful high-tech start-ups. He managed multi-national entities and merged a small private startup into a larger public company. Jack served as CEO and Chairman of the Board of one multinational company that was traded publicly on the NASDAQ stock exchange. He was a pivotal figure in the early development days of the Silicon Valley’s high-tech industry.
Throughout the California wine boom of the 1970’s, Jack became obsessed with the cultivation and production of fine wine. He also became enamored with sailboats. In 1999, he retired and sailed from San Francisco to Mexico with the “Baja Ha-Ha”, a 750-mile cruisers' rally from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas. Jack covered over 8,000 miles on the open ocean.
He was an adamant agnostic much of his life, but he came to faith by surrendering his will to God during a period of personal crisis.
Jack wrote, “Makers of Mischief” (2007) - a humorous review of his boyhood adventures, heroes and dreams while growing up in government housing project.
In 2017, he wrote his second book, “Always Chasing Rainbows”, an emotional memoir; a story of realizing truths, of self-discovery, and of overcoming personal crisis to achieve a life of peace and fulfillment.
Jack was extremely proud of his four daughters and seven grandchildren. He had 3 daughters from his first marriage, Erin, Amy and Lindy and raised stepdaughter, Haizea, from his second marriage.
Jack was a tenaciously hardworking individual, was highly skilled with home crafts with a near-obsessive attention to detail. He was a person filled with a witty sense of humor, jokes, quips, and charm. Jack was a keen observer of life and people. He preferred intimate gatherings to large parties. His many life experiences gifted him with wisdom and the joy of savoring many special moments. He prayed daily. He lived with gratitude. He overcame many struggles in his life and through them learned many valuable lessons. Jack’s was indeed a life well lived.
Jack died on July 16, 2022 from a brief but aggressive bout with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Jaio Osborne, Erin & Marc Nishimura (Ashby & Alice), Amy Osborne (Tyler & Brody) and friend, John Humphreys, Lindy and Carl Metz (Penny, Hannah & Mae), Haizea Alemany and friend, Michael LaVelle, Naomi Kitamura, Doug Osborne, Siena Foxx, Carol Yancey, Ann Everitt (David) and Christine Jenkins (Brad).
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Council Tree Covenant Church, 4825 South Lemay Avenue, Fort Collins, CO 80525.
