On October 1, 1939, J.C. was born to John & Marie (Gauer) Landfried in Waco, TX. He grew up on the family farm outside of Crawford, TX, and attended Canaan Baptist Church throughout his childhood and teenage years. J.C. attended Crawford Schools and in his high school years he participated in various sports, including basketball, track and football. He loved his Chevies and was often seen burning up the farm roads headed to the big town of Waco. Young J.C. was a carefree, fun-loving, hard working individual. In his later years, he would laugh a contagious laugh while sharing various stories of his “Young J.C.” shenanigans with his family.
On November 11, 1972, after 10 years of friendship/courtship, he married the love of his life, Margaret Lavonne Breeland Landfried, at Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Waco. For the next 50 years and 11 months, they would build a beautiful life together. In 1974, they had a daughter, Georgetta, who would end up being their only child and forever “daddy’s girl.” In 1976, J.C. and Margaret built their family home in Hewitt, TX.
J.C. worked for Mars, Inc. for 20 years and retired in 1996. If you ask his family, they would say that he was the ultimate “Mr. Fixit!” J.C. built himself a two-car garage and never parked a car in it. Instead, it became his workshop where he could often be found building, fixing, and tinkering. He enjoyed spending his retirement years working in his workshop with his multi-generational tools of every kind that have been passed down from generation to generation.
J.C. and his family enjoyed many trips to Colorado for summer vacations and it had always been a dream of his to move to Colorado once he retired. In 2014, he and Margaret officially became the family snowbirds and purchased a home in Colorado, close to their daughter and son-in-law.
J.C. is preceded in death by his parents John and Marie Landfried. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Lavonne Landfried, daughter Georgetta Landfried Bolleter and her husband Leland of Fort Collins, CO, sister Mary Lou Borries and husband Gerald of Crawford, TX, brother-in-law Norman Breeland and his wife Susan of China Spring, TX, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held in his home state of Texas. More details are forthcoming.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer Society or Pathways of Northern Colorado. Treasured memories and words of condolence for the Landfried family are welcome at www.resthavencolorado.com.
