Born in Berwick on Aug. 9, 1954 , he was the son of the late Daniel and Louise (Marchionni) Manetta.
John lived a life as rich and spirited as the great outdoors he so dearly loved. Whether he was waiting patiently in a tree-stand for the perfect shot or casting a line at the crack of dawn, the great outdoors was his sanctuary.
John was an avid trapshooter for more than 50 years. His skill allowed him to capture 115 major trapshooting trophies in various states around the country. John was named to the PSSA State Trapshooting team 12 times in his career. Nine of his 12 appointments were to the Men's First Team. His career culminated in the induction into the Pennsylvania Trapshooting Hall of Fame in 2022. All the accomplishments meant nothing to John in comparison to the lifelong friendships he created along the way. He will be remembered not just for his sharp eye and perfect scores, but the camaraderie and joy he shared with his trapshooting family. With a true love for the sport, John spent decades on the line, always ready to lend a shotgun or teach a new generation how to shoot trap.
John also had a love for playing cards, shooting dice and horse racing. He lived his life like he played the stables- always willing to take a chance and forever betting on a long shot. Some of his best memories were made in the casino with his friends and family. John also was an avid Phillies Fan, never missing a game or predicting them to win in the World Series this year.
John was a proud veteran, having served his country as a member of the United States Navy, stationed in San Diego. After his military service he returned to Berwick as owner of the Briar Creek Truck Stop. He also was employed with Fishing Creek Transportation prior to moving to Colorado.
Above all else, John cherished family. His grandson, Rocco, was truly the light of his life. His laughter achievements and presence brought boundless joy and comfort in John's final years. The memories and lessons he leaves behind will be cherished forever. John was a lovable character who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory include Nanci, the love of his life and wife of 53 years; a son John Paul, Berwick; a daughter Lis Schmidt (Eliot) Windsor, Colorado; a beloved grandson, Rocco; and his three sisters: Natalie, Brea, and Ashley; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, DFaniel V. Manetta.
