John Edward Miranda Sr., 79, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on September 26, 2026. Born January 19, 1947, in Fort Collins to Ernesto and Carolina Miranda, he was a lifelong resident who attended Lincoln Middle School and graduated from Fort Collins High School.
Known as the “historian of Fort Collins,” he had a remarkable memory for people, places, and dates and loved sharing stories of the city. He spent more than 20 years at Teledyne Water Pik and later supervised warehouse operations.
A lifelong basketball enthusiast, he played in the Fort Collins Merchants league, helped secure the 1969 championship, and later became a respected referee. The game connected him to his brothers, friends, and generations of players.
Proud of his heritage, he was involved in the Chicano movement of the 1970s with his brother Valerio “Ernie” Miranda. Baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on October 8, 1983, he remained active in the ministry and was known for his hospitality.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, dancing, cooking, horseshoes, cards, and pool, with music—especially oldies and Santana—always nearby. His famous menudo and homemade salsa were staples at family gatherings.
He is survived by his children Monte, Tisha, Sophia, Johnny, and Moriah; siblings Esther Bain, Mike Miranda, Carmen, Susanna Miranda, and Conce Rock; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Augustine, Anthony, Ruben, and Valerio Miranda; and sisters Irene Janero, Lucille Creech, Elsie King, and Francis Pachecho.
John will be remembered for his deep faith, generous spirit, quick humor, love of life, and the way he made others feel welcome.
