He graduated from Lee Edwards High School in Asheville, NC and went on to attend Central Wesleyan College in Central, SC where he studied Pastoral Ministries. He pastored in Friends Meeting and Wesleyan Churches for 58 years.
He enjoyed flying, fishing and golf. John was a God-fearing man, a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He leaves behind his wife Ruth Lorene (Scruggs) Powell; sons, John Powell Jr. of Fort Collins, CO, Ron Powell of Brighton, CO, and daughter, Debbie Powell Roof of Fayetteville, GA; sister, Christine Carter of Waynesboro, VA; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to either Pathways Hospice or Columbine West Health and Rehab in care of Resthaven Funeral Home 8426 S. Hwy. 287, Fort Collins, CO 80525.
