I wanted to study hydrology when i applied to CSU but the Lord directed me to hydraulics under Dr. Abt's technical guidance. After graduating from CSU in 2001 and went back to CSU in 2016 to have my students from East Los Angeles College present their dam break study at CSU during Hydrology Days in 2016. I had the pleasure of reuniting with Dr. Ramirez back then. I just hope and pray i can accomplish as much as Dr. Ramirez accomplished at CSU. He was and continues to be a role model for many Hispanic professors. Lord willing will study the Lord's favorite resource in heaven, water.

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Jorge Ramirez for a number of years here in Fort Collins even after his cancer diagnosis. He was so polite, kind and very humble about his amazing accomplishments and career. I was impressed how he spoke of his own father, who was a medical Dr. in Columbia, and passed at too young of an age. He often remarked how much he loved him and I think that he was guided by his father in this life very much.
He also would speak often of his 3 sons, and I was amazed at how accomplished they all were. He was so proud, and they were deeply loved by Jorge. He encouraged me with my own children, and would say, Donna, don't worry! They are going to have challenges but they will be alright! Just keep loving and supporting them.
Jorge was such a wise soul and I pray his soul to keep with the Father in Heaven.

I never met Jorge in person, but I had the opportunity to know him by email. I was deeply impressed by his dedication to teaching and research and his enthusiasm for hydrology. I had the feeling that I got in touch with a rigorous and brilliant scientist. We planned to meet in person one time in Colorado. I postponed that travel for too many years. I would like to give my condolences to the entire family and colleagues.

The Salas’ family would like to express our deep condolences to Jorge’s family, Gloria, Felipe, Alejandro, and Sebastian. We met them about 30 years ago when Jorge joined the faculty of Colorado State University (CSU) in Fort Collins, Colorado. Since then, we kept a friendly collaboration and relationship with everyone.

Jorge’s addition to the Hydrology and Water Resources Faculty at CSU energized the university’s capabilities in these areas and led to a broad range of research and educational programs, which contributed to the excellence in hydrologic science and engineering. Jorge’s interest and scholarship covered a wide spectrum of disciplines such as physical hydrology, hydrometeorology, climate science, agriculture and soil science, ecohydrology, geosciences, natural resources, hydraulics, and water resources planning and management. He established collaborations across disciplines and institutions, which extended to local, regional, national, and international scales.

Noteworthy is the legacy that Dr. Ramirez left during his tenure at CSU after mentoring and guiding many excellent graduate students. His dedication to teaching and research was exemplary. Fellow faculty members like myself (Pepe Salas), feel a deep loss and he will be greatly missed.

My first class at CSU was Physical Hydrology, taught by Dr. Ramirez, 25 years ago. The class was filled with the brightest people I had ever studied with. Everyone was challenged by the amount and depth of the material being presented. We were each inspired by Dr. Ramirez’s passion for the subject, his teaching ability, and his leadership. He is the best teacher I ever had. His teaching changed the way I think about the world. I never saw him after graduation, but I think of him often, even after all these years.

He is one of the best teachers and researchers of hydrology field in my life ever.
I took his hydrologic courses in 2004-2006.
I was impressed by his teaching and learned a lot of hydrologic knowledge in his classes.
While I visited FC in 2008 again after graduation, I met him a restaurant by chance.
We had a good time and I took a picture together.
I did not recognize that meeting is the last time with him.
Words cannot even begin to express my sorrow.
May his soul rest in peace.
You are in our hearts.

For twenty years I looked forward to Jorges occasional calls for help with his lawn-mower or lawn sprinkler. It was good and very refreshing for me to be in his presence.Several years ago he shared his plight with me,and with a lump in my throat I thanked him profusely, saying that people in my culture wouldn't share that news with a workman.I knew we were friends, and in his extreme Latino polite way he simply said"of course".When I last saw him(5ish months ago)he said"I think I'm being kept alive by medical science". His recent death surprised me,and I am deeply saddened.
Via Con Dios Jorge,me Amigo...

I met Jorge about twenty years ago. I was immediately impressed by his sharp mind and scientific talent. Not only. Throughout all these years I appreciated him as intellectually honest and rigorous researcher, who always had respect for others' opinions. Not only. He was a passionate teacher. We did not happen to have frequent contacts and collaborations, but he offered me his unconditional friendship. I will miss him, lots of people will miss a good fellow and friend.

I consider it one the greatest fortunes in my life to have been a student of Jorge at CSU, to have met this remarkable genuine person. You have inspired me Jorge to become a scientist, teacher, and most of all a better human being. And I am sure I am not the only one. Thank you Gloria for sharing Jorge with us...
