He was a graduate of Utica college in New York with a degree in History and worked for the Wharton post office in New Jersey as a Letter Carrier for more than 30 years before retiring in April of 2006. He worked hard and delivered on the motto “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”. Joe rarely ever called in sick and had perfect attendance many years in a row.
Joe was an avid runner and natural athlete who enjoyed sports, played baseball, and football while younger and coached his son Joe’s baseball teams. He loved participating in fantasy football and baseball leagues as well, and often won those championships. Joe was very active into his later years too playing pickleball and golf.
He enjoyed playing cards, going to the theatre, and music concerts of all kinds. Joe was an avid reader who enjoyed fiction and nonfiction, particularly history; he was a member of several book clubs. Joe also had many friends who he enjoyed these hobbies with.
He moved to Fort Collins, Colorado in June of 2006 to be closer to family, also after spending several vacations there and falling in love with the state. Joe quickly became active in the church and served as a Deacon and later an Elder at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Fort Collins with his wife Linda. Joe always had a friendly smile, a nice word for everyone, and enjoyed conversation. Joe was noted by many for being kind, caring, thoughtful, and giving.
Joe is survived by his wife Linda, a son Joe, a brother John, and sister Lanie. A niece Vanessa (husband Joe, and son Giovanni), John’s wife Jill and stepson Patrick, and Lanie’s husband Don. Joe also had one grandchild Ella (Joe’s daughter), a stepdaughter Jennifer (Linda's daughter) and five step-grandchildren, Matthew, Julia, Taylor and Emily. One step-grandchild preceded Joe in death, Tyler died in 1998 (all Jennifer's children).
Joe was loved by all and will be sorely missed. Donations in Joe’s Memory may be made to his favorite non-profits: Fort Collins Habitat for Humanity, Food Bank for Larimer County, or Children’s Hospital Colorado.
