Joyce Aileen Stewart was born in Wichita, Kansas on November 16, 1937, where she lived until her family moved to Southern California when she was 12. Joyce attended high school and junior college in Lynwood, California and married Jan Hoopingarner (deceased) in 1956.
They moved to Littleton, Colorado in 1966, and to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1968, and then lived in several places in Colorado and New Mexico before moving to Arizona in 1980. She spent many years living there and working as an Executive Assistant to the Superintendent at Tempe Union High School District in Tempe, Arizona. In 2008 she retired and moved to Fort Collins Colorado to be closer to her growing family.
Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Erin Maranjian of Fort Collins, Colorado and Stella St. Vincent of Seattle, Washington. She was predeceased by her husband and her two sons, Kurt Hoopingarner in Phoenix, Arizona and Brett Hoopingarner in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Joyce enjoyed spending time with family and friends and MOST of all playing cards and other games. Her friendly competitive spirit made for some lively times around the game table. She was teased by her family for always trying to make Christmas a time to try out new games and could be depended on to come up with some kind of contest for us.
She was a model for her family in the art of being kind, fun-loving and independent. The challenges she had in life were met with good humor and grace. She was proud of her family and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
We will all miss her very much.
Joyce will be laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins, Colorado, next to her son, Brett Hoopingarner. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to savinganimalstoday.org.
