Leland John Hendrie

Leland (Lee) John Hendrie, 85, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Born in Fremont Michigan to the late Claude and Dorothy Hendrie. Lee graduated from Fremont High School in 1955 where he was elected Class President in both his Sophomore and Senior years. Lee then graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Business with a focus on Insurance. He then served as a 2nd Lieutenant, Warrant Officer with the Army. After completing his military commitment Lee began his career in insurance. Lee remained in the insurance industry for 52 years, during which he opened his own Brokerage firm in California. Lee married his wife Patricia in 1964 and they resided in California until they moved to Fort Collins. Lee enjoyed many other business ventures over the years, the two most memorable being PHD Insurance Brokers, Inc. and Pat’s Hallmark Shop. Lee and Pat opened their first store in the late 1970’s in Huntington Beach, California. After moving to Colorado, they opened locations in Broomfield, Fort Collins and Arvada. Lee continued to run his Insurance Brokerage in Garden Grove, California until he retired in 2018, traveling between the two states. Lee and Pat helped found two churches: Harbor Christian Church, in Costa Mesa, California and Heart of the Rockies Christian Church in Fort Collins. Lee continued his service to the church as an Elder and Adult Sunday School teacher at both churches.

Lee is survived by his wife Pat of 58 years. Their children; Robert (Chris), Kevin, and Jennifer (Barry); and grandchildren; Ian, Avery, Christopher, and Hannah.

A private family graveside ceremony will take place at Resthaven Memory Gardens, 8426 S. HWY 287, Fort Collins, CO 80525

A Celebration of Life for Lee will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Heart of the Rockies Christian Church, 6501 Brittany St., Fort Collins, CO 80525
