

Loren W. Bruns, age 90, of Loveland, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Good Samaritan Village where he had resided for the past three and a half years. Loren was born June 25, 1920 in Republic County, Kansas to Fritz and Minnie (Grueber) Bruns. He attended schools in Republic Co. Kansas. He played baseball in the Ban Johnson League in Kansas and Nebraska. Loren was a WWII Veteran having served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945 in Africa, Sicily, and Italy as a Sergeant. He was a life member of the DAV.He had three sons with his first wife, Patty Crowell. After the military service, they moved to Colorado and farmed along with dairying. Loren served on the Board of the Ft. Collins Milk Producers in the 1950's as well as being a member of the Denver Milk Producers. He was a board member of the Louden Ditch Co. Following his farming career, he was a superintendent of the Resthaven Memory Gardens in the 1960's and 70's.In 1962, he married Louise Colton. Loren is survived by his loving wife, Louise; his sons, Richard Bruns (wife Linda) of Beaverton, Oregon, Robert Bruns (wife Chris) of Fort Collins, stepson Dennis Colton (wife Kim) of Fort Collins, and step-daughter, Barbara Colton McCarty (husband John) of Colorado Springs. Six grandchildren: Loren Bruns, Jr., Mallorie Bruns, Marcus McCarty, Lindsey McCarty Dahl, Heather Colton Haas, Amber Colton Halligan. He had five great-grandchildren: Reid McCarty, Celia McCarty, Caleb Dahl, Brady Haas, and Colton Halligann. Life-long friend and cousin, Marvin Grueber; nephews, Ed Kasl and Rob Kasl; and a niece Mary Ann Kasl. Loren was preceded in death by his son, Randall Bruns, a sister, Sylvia Kasl, and his niece Jan Kasl.Loren loved fishing and spent several summers in Gunnison fishing. He loved sports and no one he met remained a stranger.He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church until 1982, when he moved to Mesa, AZ. In 1999, returning to Loveland, he joined Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Pathways Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church in care of Resthaven Funeral Home, 8426 S Hwy 287, Fort Collins, CO 80525.
