Louis Earl Newman, 73, longtime Worland, WY resident passed away peacefully with his daughters at his side at Pathways Inpatient Hospice Center near Loveland, Colorado on December 21, 2025. He was born on May 10,1952 in Toledo, Ohio. He lived there until he joined the Navy shortly after high school. He served in California from 1970-1976 and honed a love of service and the ocean.
On his way back to Ohio, he stopped in WY and met Kathy (McCutcheon) Newman who he was married to for over 40 years. They had two daughters, Whitney and Jenna Newman. Louie loved living in the family focused community of Worland. He attended the Presbyterian Church where you could always find him in the kitchen helping with Coffee ‘Quaintance.
He had a great love of exercise including racquetball, golf, and long distance walking. He could throw a frisbee longer than almost anyone. He was an award winning bowler and golden glove softball shortstop. He worked in both bookkeeping and foodservice, and even opened a restaurant, Lunch ‘n Such, in downtown Worland.
Louie was most comfortable in the service of others, especially when it came to making and sharing food, a passion he passed down to his daughters. He made world class sandwiches, amazing chicken nuggets, and the best banana bread. His prize winning chili known as “King of Beans Soup” in the family graced many potlucks and Superbowl parties. He instilled a love of sports in his daughters, often talking baseball and football, always cheering for the underdog.
Throughout his life he had long conversations on the phone with his daughters. They talked about everything and anything, staying in close touch about the every day happenings in their life. When Louie became a grandparent he was able to share his love even more. He enjoyed watching his grandkids explore their many passions and talents. A family trip to Oxnard, California allowed him to share his love of the ocean with them after he retired. He survived kidney cancer and proudly walked in the Relay for Life with them to celebrate his recovery. Late in life he moved back to Worland, WY where he had great support from friends and community members.
He is survived by his loving family including: his daughter, Whitney Newman and her husband Brandon Bassett and their children Harper, Etta, and Foster of Loveland, Colorado; his daughter Jenna Newman and her daughter Ollie of Billings, Montana; and his former wife Kathy of Billings, Montana. They will remember him fondly and continue to cook his recipes.
In his honor, and with his permission we’d like to share his banana bread recipe. Please make it and share it with someone you love.
