Lydia Gutierrez

Lydia was born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was the eldest of 10 children born to Mary and John Gonzales. Lydia attended local schools and was a graduate of Fort Collins High School in 1955. She married Joe Gutierrez in 1958 and started her family of 4 children shortly thereafter. Lydia spent her early adult life using her skills as an extremely fast and accurate typist in a variety of office jobs. She was a valuable asset in legal offices, educational settings, and as a business partner to her husband Joe Gutierrez in the floor covering business that they owned until the early 2000’s.

By the early 70’s Lydia was working as a real estate assistant for Rita Beattie Real Estate and eventually obtained both her real estate sales and broker licenses. Lydia was an excellent realtor. She was attentive, patient, caring and helpful to anyone who came to her looking for a home. Many of her clients became lifelong friends.

Although Lydia was an excellent businessperson, she had plenty of fun. She loved to travel with her husband and a group of close friends. She was a fine golfer and enjoyed a membership in a women’s golf group at City Park 9. She was proud to have hit a hole in one at Collindale Golf Course (hole # 8) before she stopped playing - as her arthritis made it increasingly difficult for her to grip her clubs properly. Lydia and Joe never turned down an opportunity to go dancing; the music could be rock-n-roll, disco, country or Tejano – they could dance to just about anything. Their ability to move in step with each other both on and off the dance floor was unmatched.

Lydia will be greatly missed by many friends and relatives. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Gutierrez, her children Lori (Tom) Davis, Annette (Bill) DeMoss, and Joseph (Amy) Gutierrez, all of Fort Collins, CO as well as 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Tania Jones, Ruby Olsen, Ramona Wilson and her brother Ron Gonzalez, also of Fort Collins, CO. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Gutierrez.

A Memorial Mass will be held for Lydia at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Fort Collins on a date yet to be determined. Details are forthcoming.
