

Margaret “Kay” Gabel was born to M. Ruth (Henderson) and Milo Locker on February 16, 1943. She lived her formative years in Sioux County, NE and graduated from Mitchell High School.She was active in 4H, showing Hereford steers, often winning championship ribbons. It was at the Scotts Bluff County Fair that she met her future husband, Larry Gabel. They married in 1961 and moved to Scottsbluff, NE.
Kay attended beauty school in Lincoln, NE. She enjoyed doing hair for many years. Kay also did in-home day care while her children were young. After that she went to work for the phone company, before starting her banking career at First State Bank. She served in many capacities over 30 years at the bank. Kay loved working at the bank and made many friends from co-workers and clients.
After retiring in the mid 2000s, she spent her free time with her family and friends. She often traveled with family and friends, as well. Soon after her spouse's death in 2012, she moved to Windsor, CO to be near family. She wasted no time finding a Colorado friend group. They welcomed her with open arms, and enjoyed many activities as a group.
She will be remembered as a hard-working woman who was always willing to get things done, whether it be work or pleasure. Kay is survived by two siblings, two children, two grandchildren, one great grandchild and many, many cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Gabel.
Per Kay’s request, no services will be held. Her family is grateful for the kindness and support given during this time.
