Gretchen, my condolences to you and your family. I lost my mom early, but you were lucky to have had her with you for such a long time. Keep your memories close to your heart.

Our mom's were scout leaders together. I remember making mitten book marks and I couldn't get mine right. I was so upset and didn't want to have to ask my mom for help. Mrs. Luxemburg took me aside to help me get it right. Prayers and sympathy to the family.

Gretchen & Family,
So sorry to hear about your mom's passing, but if anyone lived a quality, fulfilling & totally in-the-moment life, unique to her own style & passions, it was your cool Mom! I used to bump into her long after high school at the old Clvd Hts. JCC swimming pool & we always had fun rendezvous's. I admired her in so many ways. Reading the other great posts on this site, reminded me of many, incl her dog companion & the freshly baked many challahs. One novel thing i recall, was the chalkboard hanging in the kitchen with columns & multiple rows for ea. kids' personal preferences for Hannuka gifts, for all to see, so ea. got exactly what they wanted...made so much sense & left such an impression on me, that i planned on replicating when i would have my own home. Undoubtedly, her memory will always be a blessing.
(Plz have Gretchen contact me via FB (is she on that yet?) or via phone/text. Roland, chk your FB p.m. inbox for my phone # to plz pass on to Gretchen).

Two indelible memories of Mrs Luxenberg:
Watching her pull up on Parkland Avenue in the SHHS parking lot to pick up Alisa, in the big convertible, with the windows down, even in winter, and Beauregard hanging out the window.
Walking into the Hermitage Rd kitchen when mandel bread had just come out of the oven—trays of it covering the counters, the smell irresistible, and I asked her for the recipe, which I have made often.
My condolences to the entire family for your loss.

Marianna Luxenberg, the loving Mother of one of the nicest, happiest and most fun family I have the pleasure of knowing. Growing up, Diana and Lana were my closest summer friends and I spent much time with their family. I am so sorry for you all. May your Mother's memory be a blessing to you and live always in your heart.
