Born on May 23, 1933, in Fithian, Illinois, Mary was the cherished and only daughter of John D. and Ethel A. Davis. In 1949, she married Floyd Gale Starks, and together they raised three children: Dale Alan, Mary Gayle, and Earl William, before separating. Later in life, she found a wonderful companion in Harold Boyer, whom she married in 1965. They made their home in Pecatonica, Illinois until the mid-1970s, before relocating to sunny Arizona, embarking on countless adventures camper-traveling across the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Hawaii.
Mary’s heart belonged to travel and connection. She was always ready “to go!”—never missing an opportunity to visit family and friends or explore the wider world. In 1989, she embarked on an unforgettable European adventure with her granddaughter Angela, visiting the vibrant streets of Paris, London, and Amsterdam. Decades later, in 2011, she journeyed to the Holy Land alongside her daughter, Mary Gayle. Following the passing of her beloved husband, Harold, Mary moved to Wellington, Colorado, in 2012 to be closer to her adoring family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; her brothers, Edward, Loyal D, Glenn, and Charles; her son, Dale Starks; and her granddaughter, Angela Wright.
Mary’s legacy of love and devotion lives on through her daughter, Mary Gayle Torrez, her son, Earl William “Bill” Starks, and her granddaughter, Susan Holly Crabb of Indiana. She also leaves behind Harold’s wonderful blended family of six stepchildren, as well as many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will deeply miss her bright spirit and unwavering devotion.
Services to celebrate Mary’s life are planned for October 16, 2026, at 11:00am, at Stearns Cemetery in Fithian, Illinois.
