Mary Teresa Coolen-Arroyo, 54, of Fort Collins, CO passed away Friday, December 20th, 2024. Born in Wyoming, she was the daughter of the George Coolen and Meredith Bryon. She graduated from Columbine High School in 1988 and attended Colorado State University from the years 1988-1992. While at CSU, she met and fell in love with Lucas Arroyo. They were married on August 24th, 1996. On October 1st, 1997, she became a mother to a beautiful pair of twin girls, Madison and Micaela Arroyo.
After some time off from school, Mary graduated with a degree in Education and a minor in History from CSU in 2007. Mary taught at many local high schools and middle schools, her favorite thing about her career was the youth, she loved debating and showing her views to the people she could relate to in any way possible. Her two main schools were Rocky Mountain High School and Poudre Valley High School and she was very proud of the students she was able to impact.
The Arroyo household, known as the "Arroyo Café" to loved ones, was the place to be. She loved to entertain and was known as another mother to all of her daughter's friends. Whenever people would come over they left with full bellies and happy hearts. Her favorite hobbies were to paddle board at Horsetooth Res, dance parties, and of course loved to debate about her headstrong views on the work. She always knew how to not take life so seriously, living in the moment and showing others around her that "this moment" was the one to be a part of. She had a strong impact on everyone she came across in her life. Anyone who knew her, knew how special of a person she was.
Surviving are her wonderful children, Madison (Jon) Heller of TX, Micaela (Kieran) Grant of CO; sisters, Cindy (Keith) Coolen of CO, Lynette (Paul) Healy of NY; brother, James Coolen of CO; 6 nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat Koda.
A celebration of life will be held from 4:00-8:00pm. Friday, December 27th, 2024, at the Arroyo Café (Mary and Lucas house)
