Michelle was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma on March 24th, 1965, the middle of three children born to Joe Northcott and Gloria Parker Rice. Her family moved to Colorado when she was two years old. Growing up, she was the “good kid” who rarely got into any trouble. She kept busy in her youth by participating in various extracurricular activities such as singing in the choir and swimming. She attended Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins and, though she didn’t know it at the time, graduated with her future husband in 1984.
On a fateful summer evening in 1988, Michelle was working at JCPenney in the catalog department and just before closing time, in walked a former classmate, Randall Rogers. Randy asked for her number and Michelle “reluctantly” provided it. He called her the NEXT day and they have been together ever since. The couple moved to Denver in 1989 and were married in 1991.
In 1996, Michelle earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from Metro State University. She worked for a time at the Women and Children in Crisis center in downtown Denver, as well as various overnight shelters in the metro area. It was emotionally demanding work and, at times, even dangerous, but Michelle loved working in a position where she cared for others – especially children.
In 1998, Michelle became a mother for the first time, and so began her greatest adventure and permanent career. She and Randy joyously welcomed a son, Jadon. The family moved to Loveland in 1999 and later welcomed two more sons: Ethan in 2001, and Joey in 2004. Michelle was an amazing mother who was dedicated to her children. Raising her boys was her greatest joy in this life.
Michelle absolutely loved scrapbooking! In a world where thousands of photos are taken and forgotten, Michelle was taking the time to print and lovingly arrange them. Her mantra was, "if you post it, I print it". She carefully cataloged the lives of those she loved. She also enjoyed social media and the opportunity it gave her to stay connected to others. She would take the time to engage and “like” or comment on what was shared. She just loved people so much and really enjoyed keeping up with their busy lives – especially if they had little ones!
If ever there was a gentle soul on this earth, it was Michelle. She was just a lovely person. She was kind and caring and always put the needs of others before herself. She was polite and gracious. Michelle was, in a word, a true Sweetheart. And she never complained; even when she got sick…she always made a point to thank all the doctors, nurses, CNAs, and even the janitors who came into any of the many, many hospital and hospice rooms she stayed in during her health crisis.
Michelle was just 59 years young when she lost the battle in the fight for her earthly life. Though she fought hard and never gave up, her cancer proved to be an unbeatable adversary. Through it all, she remained positive and continued to think of others. She looked to Christ Jesus for strength and in her faith, found comfort and peace. She was not afraid of the end because she knew it was also a beginning.
Michelle leaves behind her loving husband of 33 years, Randall Rogers; and her sons, Jadon, Ethan, and Joseph “Joey” Rogers; and her beloved kitty, Bo. She is also survived by her mother, Gloria Rice and stepfather, Mark Rice; her brother, Michael Northcott; and her sister, Shari Davenport (Dave); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and dear friends who will all miss her and her gentle spirit. Michelle is preceded in death by her father, Joe Northcott.
Services will be held for Michelle on Saturday, July 13th, 2024 at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memory Gardens in Fort Collins. Those that wish to view and say their final goodbyes may do so at 10:30am. A Celebration of Michelle's Life will begin at 11am, and she will be laid to eternal rest at 12pm. A Light Luncheon will follow the Graveside Service.
