Miriam Elizabeth Sandberg 1930-2019
Miriam Elizabeth Meyer Sandberg was born December 10, 1930 in Watseka, IL. She grew up on her parent’s farm in small town of Crescent City, IL. Her parents and grandparents, like most of the town, were German immigrants. She helped with the animals and farm chores and played piano and xylophone. In 1947 she showed her pig “Pal” at the International Livestock Show in Chicago and won “Grand Champion”, and received congratulatory letters from across the country. It was quite an honor for a teenager. She attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and became a registered nurse. That is where she met Warren, married, settled down in Niles, Illinois, and had a son, Ken. She worked in a doctor’s office there and became the office manager. In 1983 Miriam and Warren retired and moved to Colorado to be near their son Ken, his wife Linda, and their family. Miriam enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and especially knitting and cross-stitch. The quality and quantity of her creations is remarkable and will be cherished by her family. Miriam and Warren traveled the World extensively before and after they retired. After Warren passed away in 2010 Miriam moved to an independent living facility with her cat Mazey and enjoyed the friendships and activities there for many years. As signs of dementia started to appear she moved into facilities with more support. Miriam passed away on June 11th due to complications of her dementia including pneumonia and a stroke. Miriam was preceded in death by her husband Warren, parents Marie and Edwin and her brother Robert. She is survived by her son Ken, daughter-in-law Linda, grandchildren Jaime (Luis), Megan (Nick), and Jeff, and great grandchildren Austin, Mackenzie, Owen, Lucas, and Beckett. Miriam will be cremated and there will be a private family memorial service per her wishes. Donations can be made to Pathways Hospice or Larimer Humane Society.
