She was born on February 25, 1935 in Seward County, Nebraska to Adolph and Elsie Schulz, and grew up in Gothenburg, Nebraska with three brothers and two sisters. The family enjoyed the Nebraska farm life. Myrna graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1952 and shortly after married her high school sweetheart, Milford Bratten.
Myrna and Milford enjoyed a wonderful life together. Myrna was a homemaker and stayed home to raise their three sons, Rick, Matt, and Wade. For many years, the Bratten family vacationed in Drake, Colorado, just west of Loveland. In 1969, Milford was transferred by Prudential and they relocated to Loveland, which became their forever home. Myrna and Milford had just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary at the time of his passing in 2016.
Myrna had a great sense of humor and heart of gold. She was always welcoming and easily accepted others. She was a woman of deep faith and was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Loveland. For many years, she worked seasonally as a chemist for the Great Western Sugar Factory. Myrna enjoyed birdwatching and loved hummingbirds. In her younger years, she was an avid and accomplished bowler. She and Milford enjoyed heading up the hill to do a little gambling together. She loved sports, family gatherings, and a good game of cribbage. More than anything else, Myrna loved her family.
Myrna will be dearly missed by her sons, Matt Bratten (Lisa Salerno) and Wade Bratten (Lisa); grandchildren, Trent Bratten (Lauren), Erika Cianca (Dann), Jace Bratten (Emily), Travis Bratten, and Seth Bratten (Kristen); and her great-grandchildren, Adelyn Bratten, Emery Bratten, Bowen Bratten, Carson Bratten, Harrison Cianca, and Brody Bratten. She is also survived by her sister, Vera Wolf, brother-in-law, Kermit Bratten (Debbie), and numerous nieces and nephews. She is welcomed in Heaven by her beloved husband, Milford Bratten, and her son, Rick Bratten; brothers Norbert Schulz, Milton Schulz, and Virgel Schulz; sister, Elaine Brown; daughter-in-law, Debra Bratten; and by her parents.
A Celebration of Myrna's Life will be held on Friday, March 15th, 2024 at 11am at Zion Lutheran Church in Loveland, followed by a lunch reception. Myrna will be placed to eternal rest with Milford in a private graveside ceremony at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Fort Collins.
In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged in her memory to the House of Neighborly Service. Sweet memories of Myrna and words of condolence for her family are welcome at www.resthavencolroado.com.
