My heart aches for your loss of such a wonderful man.

I had the privilege of being recruited by Ned to become a State Farm Agent. After turning down several offers from State Farm, Ned reached out to me, asking to visit my home in Normal, IL. To make a long story short, a few months later, I found myself stepping into the role of a State Farm agent.

Ned always had a way of being both convincing and encouraging, knowing exactly what to say at the right moment. I greatly admired both him and Barb for the way they lived their lives. They served as role models for me, and I learned so much from their example. I will forever cherish the relationship we built over the years.

I feel truly blessed to have known Ned, and I will always treasure the visit he made to my agency on my 40th anniversary with State Farm. He spent the entire day with me, playing his harmonica and reminiscing about State Farm's history and sharing heartfelt stories about his family. One of my favorites was when he shared how, as a little girl, his mother played on the front porch while her uncle and grandfather sat at the kitchen table planning the beginnings of an insurance company. His grandfather was G.J. Meherle, the founder of State Farm. Ned spoke of this with such pride, and it was a beautiful glimpse into his family's legacy.

We were next door neighbors of Ned and Barb for many years on Singing Woods Rd, and we always enjoyed visiting with them. After we moved from Singing Woods, we stayed in contact with them and saw them occasionally at a favorite breakfast restaurant in Dunlap. We cherished our friendship and always found them to be very friendly. Our thoughts are with your family, and we extend our sympathy to each of you.

Allison, Steve and Jim,
Your Dad ,Ned, will be sorely missed. My husband and I, were Barb and Neds neighbors on Singing Woods Rd. We did not really know them for years when they were both working, but Ned always made a point of stopping along the road when I would be outside doing yard work to tell me what a good job I was doing. You have to understand my yardwork was using the weed eater, and I was covered from head to foot in dirt and grass clippings, but those words were so appreciated. I thought to myself what a kind and sweet man.

It wasn't until around 10 years later that I was bringing vegetables and baked goods to some of the neighbors that I met them for the first time. They were both sitting on their back porch with Ned playing his harmonica and Barb cuddling a huge fat red chicken named yellow bird in her arms. The chicken was purring fondly and I knew that this was no ordinary chicken.!!!! She was almost 15 years old and was their house pet.

That began a friendship that I will cherish forever. Barb was Ned's sweet bride who he referred to always and they had the most loving relationship I have ever seen. Ned was the most patient and calm man I had ever met and was content to sit on his porch or outside on his chair for hours at a time. I always chuckled when I came to visit because he always would ask where we are going and was ready to have you take him up to the Mayflower restaurant, Barb and Ned's favorite place to eat breakfast or lunch and meet with the regulars everyday. It was the highlight of their day.

I can't imagine not having them as neighbors anymore and it makes me so sad ,but at the same time I feel blessed to have had them in my life as long as I did. I am so glad he got to be with his kids on his final days. When I read the obituary I was so surprised to learn new things about him. It only clarifies what a Noble and Grand man he was. Heaven will be proud to add one more angel.
