Patrick Sheill Hanna

He was an exceedingly loving, caring, and patient man who will be remembered for making a genuine connection with everyone he met. Armed with a steadfast rotation of one-liners—both terrible and fantastic—he was quick to offer an ear or hand. He loved the outdoors—relishing time cycling, mountain biking, skiing, and rollerblading the Peninsula.

Patrick was adopted in 1950 and raised in New York City. He moved to Oil City, PA in 1966 before settling in Erie, PA. Erie is where he built his life, found his community, and raised his family. He was a well-respected psychologist who practiced there for 50 years.

He is preceded in death by his mother Helen Burns, father, Edmund Hanna, mother-in-law Suzanne Kholos, father-in-law Leonard Kholos, and brother Sean Hanna.

In addition to his wife, Renee, Patrick is survived by his children Brian Hanna (Kristen), Timothy Hanna (Zoe), and Kelly Martin (Gerald); grandchildren Mira, Levi, and Emmett Hanna and Susanna Martin; siblings Susan Frost (Steve), and Rick Burns; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he cherished.

Later in life, Patrick was blessed to discover and connect with biological family in Ireland. He was preceded in death by his biological mother, Bridget Sheill, as well as siblings William Dooley (Mary) and Ellen Dooley. He is survived by siblings Nuala O’Leary (Lar), Patrick Dooley (Grainne), Catherine Dooley, Bridget O’Brian (Michael), Mary Keane (Gabriel), Patricia Quigley (Kevin), John Dooley (Mary), and Margaret Murphy (Ivor).

A celebration of life will be held in Erie, PA at a later date. Patrick had a kind soul that served as source of strength for those who knew him and the world is better for having had him in it.
