

Phillip E. Hernandez of Loveland passed away on October 2, 2013 at McKee Medical Center. He was born on May 26, 1942 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Salvadore and Maria (Jimenez) Hernandez. He attended Timnath High School in Timnath, CO, graduating in 1960. He attended Otero Junior College in LaJunta, CO. On April 19, 1973, he married Elsie M. Killgore. She passed away December 20, 2012.
Phil was a food inspector for the USDA and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He loved sports and played offensive tackle while attending Otero Junior College. He enjoyed hand-making rosaries and the highlight of his life was making a pilgrimage to Medjugorje. He loved the outdoors ~ fishing and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elsie, and a sister, Jennie Laney. He is survived by his step-father, Stan Sepulbeda; a son, Philip W. (Leslie) Hernandez; brothers, Sam (Karen) Hernandez, Ray (Jerrie) Hernandez, and Ernie Hernandez; a granddaughter, Megan M. Carpenter; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Buster, the toy poodle.
Recitation of the Rosary, followed by Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment Resthaven Memory Gardens.
