Ray was born in Wiley, Colorado on Christmas Day 1936; one of six children welcomed by Ann (Kahl) and H. Ernest Taulman. The family moved from Wiley to Waverly, Colorado, eventually settling down in Wellington, where he spent the remainder of his youth and lived out the rest of his life. The Taulman children were raised to value family and hard work.
While in high school, Ray began to court the only woman he would ever love, Margaret Hautum. The high school sweethearts married at the Larimer County Justice of the Peace in 1959, just one day after Margaret turned 18. They couldn’t wait to begin their life together! They would have celebrated 65 wonderful years together on August 29th, 2024.
Ray was a proud father to Denise and Eric. He loved his children dearly. It was very important to Ray to provide for his family and for many years, he worked two jobs to do so. During his working years, he had a handful of different jobs including working in bottling for Canada Dry, he worked for North Poudre Irrigation, and for 35 years he worked as a heavy equipment operator for Larimer County Road and Bridge. Ray was a hard working man. Once his day was done, he would go help out on neighboring farms.
Ray was a Colorado outdoor man who enjoyed fishing and camping with his family. He loved the water and taught his children how to swim. He loved animals and was an avid football fan. Ray also enjoyed working in his garden. He and Margaret were members of Zion Lutheran in Wellington. Together they enjoyed traveling, watching movies, and the occasional trip to the casino; and they loved dancing! Ray loved to attend the sporting events of his grandchildren.
He was a good man and was always ready to lend a hand a help others. He was kind and generous, always looking out for the wellbeing of others. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Ray leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Margaret Anna Taulman, his daughter, Denise Troudt (Larry), and his son, Eric Taulman. He was grandpa to Brandy, Travis (Laura), Breanna (Scott), and Trenton (Vanessa); and eight great-grandchildren. He had four step-grandchildren: Charity, Brennan (Kristi), Casey (Shane), and Christan; and eight step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Ray’s sisters, Carolyn Pickle and Loretta Wilson.
He is greeted in Heaven by his mother & father and his siblings, Irma Evans (and husband, Albert), Harold Taulman, Barbara Nichols (and husband, Nick); by his brothers-in-law, Karyl Pickle and Rex Wilson; and by his daughter-in-law, Mary Faye “Muffet” Taulman.
A Celebration of Ray's Life will be held on Sunday, August 18th, 2024 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at the Wellington Leeper Senior Center. Memories of Ray and words of condolence for his family are welcome at resthavencolorado.com.
