Seymour.
Rick graduated from Flint Central High School in 1974 and began his Air Force training that same summer. He married his high school sweetheart, Paula, a year later on August 9, 1975. Together, they spent his four year tour in Minot, ND where he served as a military policeman guarding intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). While there, he was honored to participate in an elite missile competition called "Olympic Arena" at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
After completing his military service, Rick began his corporate career at GTE (which was acquired by Bell Atlantic forming Verizon). While at Verizon, he continued working on his degree and received a BS in Business Management in 1994 from LeTourneau University. After almost three decades with the company, he retired as an Account/Product Manager in 2009.
Throughout his career he received many awards and was honored for his many achievements. Of course, these all pale in comparison to the numerous lifelong friendships he fostered with the many colleagues he met along the way.
Following Rick’s retirement from Verizon, he worked three more jobs, his final one being with the Gilford Corporation overseeing a project on a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) site in Kansas. In October 2022 he decided that it was time to retire from the workforce and start focusing on the things he enjoyed most.
His passions were numerous and included woodworking, enjoying the culinary arts (by way of the Food Network and a great meal), boating, skiing, fishing, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. He took great pride in his daughters, their spouses, and his grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to talk about them and showed pictures to anyone and everyone who asked (or didn't)!
In addition to renovating his own homes, he was always willing to help anyone with their construction and remodeling needs. This included moving walls, reframing, building furniture/kitchen cabinets, and built-in shelving. He was very much looking forward to helping finish a special basement project in the beautiful foothills of Colorado.
Surviving Rick are his wife Paula (Rosencrantz) of 47 years; children, Bethany Seymour and wife Alison of Loveland, CO, Jamie Hipp and husband Darren of Timnath, CO, grandchildren, Evelyn and Watson Hipp; brothers Joseph (and wife Deborah), James (and wife Delia) of Bartow, FL; sister Marie Seymour-Green (and husband John) of Newark, DE; aunt, Theresa VanEnkevort of Gladstone, MI; sister and brother-in-laws, Thomas and Michelle Crawford, Russell and Jun Rosencrantz, Ann Rosencrantz; along with cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
A memorial celebration with family and friends will be planned for next summer.
