

He was born on September 2, 1941, in Fort Collins, CO to Harriett M. Boltz and I.K. (Ide) Boltz. At age one, the family moved to Grand Junction, CO where he spent his childhood. Growing up, he enjoyed working in the Palisade peach harvests and as a steel worker on the Western Slope. He played baseball and basketball at Grand Junction High School from which he graduated in 1959.
Following high school, Roger attended Mesa Junior College serving as student body president and receiving his associates degree. He then went to Northwestern Dental School in Chicago, IL. While a student, he worked as a phlebotomist and pharmacy technician and was a member of the Psi Omega fraternity. He graduated from Northwestern in 1965 with his D.D.S. degree.
Following graduation, he received his commission to the Navy, and began his naval career in Norfolk, VA. In 1967, he was restationed to Subic Bay Republic of the Philippines. In addition to working as a dentist on base, he served as a medical advisor on a destroyer escort Squadron 7, in the South China Sea. Later he was restationed to NAS LaMoore, CA where he continued dentistry until his discharge from active duty in 1969. He remained in the Naval Reserves for twenty additional years which included serving with the US Navy Seabees and 4th Marine Division. Roger received Navy commendations including the National Defense medal, two Armed Forces Reserve medals, US Military Surgeons medal, and a Meritorious Unit Commendation medal. He retired with the rank of Captain. After his Naval retirement, he remained active with the Northern Colorado Veterans Plaza and had the privilege of traveling to Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight of Northern CO.
In 1970, he started his own dental practice in Windsor, CO where he served his patients for 33 years. He also served as the president of the State of CO Dental Examiners for two years and was a lifetime member of various dental organizations. After his retirement, he remained active as a dental and dental hygiene examiner with the American College of Dentists and International College of Dentists.
Roger was an avid CSU Rams fan and was always cheering on the green and gold. He was proud to be an honoree at the Bronze Boot ceremony in 2023 after being nominated by the CSU ROTC.
He loved people and had a wonderful sense of humor. Roger never met a stranger. He enjoyed running into friends and former patients during his travels across the country.
Roger is survived by his children Brian and Amy, Grandson, Ethan, his loving partner Kathy Kyne, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding his death were his parents, and his brother Bill Boltz.
A celebration of life will take place from 2-5pm on Friday, December 5, 2025, at C.B. and Potts (Collindale Golf Course) located at 1441 E. Horsetooth Road, Fort Collins, CO.
