Roselyn Dailey died peacefully on June 13, 2019 at the age of 87, as a result of heart complications. She was born on the northeastern plains of Colorado and was the grandchild of Russian-German immigrants. Her parents, Albert and Severa Crum, farmed near the town of Iliff. As a child, Roselyn became a skilled horsewoman and pianist. As a teenager she was the organist for her family church. Roselyn received her bachelor’s degree from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas in 1954, where she met her husband Jim. She received an elementary teaching degree in 1964, and a Master’s degree in Music Education in 1972.
She began her teaching career as a kindergarten and first grade teacher in Hutchinson, Kansas, and later taught in Longmont and Niwot, Colorado. She taught elementary music for twenty-five years in Terre Haute, Indiana (at Dixie Bee Elementary). She was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Upon retirement in 1994, Roselyn and her husband Jim returned to their native state choosing Fort Collins as their home. Throughout her retirement years, her passion was playing recorder in both the Colorado Recorder Orchestra and the Fort Collins Recorder Society. One highlight was a performance tour in Japan. Roselyn served as president of her local chapter for a time and initiated the process of establishing a recorder music library in collaboration with Shepard of the Hills Lutheran Church, of which she was a member. Establishing the recorder music library is an ongoing project for the recorder society. Roselyn enjoyed many travels in the U.S. as well as foreign travels including Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Japan and the Scandinavian countries with her husband and friends.
Roselyn is survived by three daughters and two son-in laws; an informally adopted son; daughter and granddaughter; a sister and sister-in-law; and various nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on August 17, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 1200 South Taft Hill Road, in Fort Collins, CO.
